Operation keep Macy off the furniture

We are those people…suckers for the adorableness that is our Weimador (half black lab, half weimaraner), Macy. She is so cuddly and loves to sleep with us…you know where this is going, right? Well, her cuteness of sleeping in a little tiny ball has broadened to crawling under the blanket, sleeping with all four paws stretched out and snoring. No joke, the other night I had my headphones on enjoying a recent episode of PanAm on my iPad when I could hear her snoring over the TV show. That was the last straw, we’ve got to do something to reclaim our king size bed and regular sleeping habits.

Enter, “Operation keep Macy off the furniture”, here is about how the night went:

10:30PM — I turned on the electric blanket on Macy’s bed so that she would have a nice, warm place to sleep

11:00PM — I turned off the electric blanket because I was worried that I’d forget in the morning and leave it on all day, i.e. fire hazard. Oh the life of a Firefighter.

11:30PM — I moved Macy’s bed right next to my side of the bed so that she wouldn’t feel lonely and neglected

11:45PM — Shoo Macy to get off our bed and get onto her own bed

1:00AM –Shoo Macy to get off the sofa in our bedroom and go onto her own bed

2:00AM –Shoo Macy to get off our bed and get onto her own bed

4:00AM — Shoo Macy to get off our bed and get onto her own bed

7:00 AM — Wake up and feed Macy

7:10AM — Shoo a wide-eyed and bushy-tailed Macy to get off our bed and onto her own bed

8:00AM — Take this picture of Macy and give her a little lovin’ for staying on her own bed while I got ready for work. I’m pretty sure she’s giving me the stink eye in this picture though. Not her most photogenic moment.

Tonight the operation continues, but I’m assuming that it’ll start earlier since I didn’t get a restful nights sleep. Fingers crossed that I have the stamina and follow through to see this until the end. Because after all…

  1. OMG! We are having the same problem with our dog! We created a monster for letting her get on our bed too much. Now she wakes me up in the middle of the night because she jumps on top of me to get in-between us.

  2. Last night was more successful then the night before. She only jumped up once and went right to her bed when I told her to get down. I am also giving her her treats after a walk on her bed. I’m going to bring some treats upstairs to use as a reward when she does get down and on to her own bed. Progress today…tomorrow I may be singing a different tune.

What I also didn’t mention in my blog post is that we have the same problem with our sofa/chairs in the living room and the bed in our guest bedroom. Princess Macy likes to lounge on those as well. We’ve closed the door to the guest bedroom (problem solved). On the living room furniture we’ve placed plastic chair mats from Staples that we’ve cut to fit our furniture and turned them over so the prongs stick up…she won’t lay on the prongs. BUT she has managed to get some air and jump over these to lay on the back of the sofa…ugh she’s too smart for her own good. All parents think their “kids” aka furbabies are smart, right?!

    Good luck to you!
